This was designed by Paul Ludwig Troost, Albert Speer amongst others was one of his pupils. The building was completed in 1937 after his death. In my view the best example of Nazi monumental architecture still standing today. It gives one an insight into of how German cities might have looked if the Nazis had won the war and Hitler’s architectural dreams has become a reality.

Josef Thorak Studio – Munich

Josef Thorak became one of the official sculptors of the Third Reich. His huge studio lies tucked away in a Munich suburb. As you can see by the scale of the doors. His sculptures were to be oversize, huge in actual fact. In NAZI eyes this was to represent the strength and glory of the Reich and Aryan man. Note there are few remnants of his work in the grounds.

I am giving talks in Canada soon on the development of the Auschwitz camps.

There were eventually three camps

Auschwitz 1, Auschwitz Birkenau, Monowitz. These are sometimes refered to Auchwitz 1,2 and 3 respectively.

Here are few of my pictures of Auschwitz 1 and Auschwitz Birkenau. The scale of this place is frighteningly immense.

A few pics

An old air raid bunker near a carpark. Underground amunition stores in a park. A bit of pavement no one notices next to a modern roundabout and cinema….but if you look closely you can see the remains of the house walls and some ones tiled floor. (Baedeker Raid June 1st 1942)

Large WW1 memorial

This is a large WW1 memorial tucked away in Deroy Strasse. It now seems to be off limits to the public. It is right near one of the schools that Himmler´s father was headmaster of.

Destroyed/removed WW2 memorial in Munich

I thought I would post up something that has disappeared. It is no longer there. It seems to have been destroyed/removed at some point. The attached WW1 memorial is still in situ. This was very unusual sight, as it was the only memorial specificaly to a WW2 German army unit that existed in the Munich area to my knowledge (the 4th Panzer Division)
